7. How is the union of husband and wife described by Jesus? Matthew 19:6

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” Genesis 2:24.

“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh” Ephesians 5:31.

Jesus was quoting scripture when he spoke these words. Paul later quoted Jesus and the Old Testament.

8. How long should a marriage last? 1 Corinthians 7:39

9. In answer to a question from the Pharisees, what did Jesus say about divorce? Mark 10:4-9

10. Are there any Biblical grounds given for divorce? Matthew 5:31, 32

The only ground given in scripture for divorce is adultery. When one spouse becomes intimately and sexually involved with another individual, the wronged spouse has grounds to obtain a divorce. Sometimes marriages don’t involve adultery, but they are such abusive relationships, that one partner must leave to maintain their life, health, and/or their mental stability. While there may be a divorce, there are no Biblical grounds for remarriage.

11. Where does the sin of adultery begin? Matthew 5:28

12. What is another facet of adultery? Matthew 19:9

13. In ancient Israel, what punishment was dealt to a man and woman taken in adultery? Deuteronomy 22:22

14. When a man and woman are joined in marriage, what should be the condition of the first time bride? Isaiah 62:5

15. What should be the condition of the first time groom? 1 Corinthians 7:1, 2

16. When Abraham sent his trusted servant Eleazar to find a bride for his son Isaac, what command did he give he servant? Genesis 24:3, 4

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14.

Many religions teach this concept, because it has been well proven that two people who do not have similar beliefs and practices face many more difficulties in marriage than those who are in agreement about their convictions and their fundamental philosophies of life.

17. How strong was the influence of Jezebel over her husband, Ahab, king of Israel? 1 Kings 21:25

Her influence is evident in the story of Naboth’s vineyard found in 1 Kings 21:5-16.

18. What were Jezebel’s origins? 1 Kings 16:31

“And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?” 2 Kings 9:22. This verse indicates that Jezebel was considered a witch and a practitioner of sorcery.

19. What end was prophesied for Jezebel? 2 Kings 9:10

20. How was it fulfilled? 2 Kings 9:30-37

21. As the Christian church grew, what sexual sin were the new believers taught to abstain from? Acts 15:29

Immoral acts and sexual perversions were deeply embedded in the various pagan religions. God had already forbidden such immorality to be a part of the true faith (see Deuteronomy 23:17, 18). These actions had caused great moral and physical pollution in the lands where they were practiced.

22. Why does the Bible say to flee fornication? 1 Corinthians 6:16

23. How are men and women to avoid fornication? 1 Corinthians 7:2

“Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.... But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul” Proverbs 6:27-32.

“Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness” Jeremiah 3:2.

Fornication and adultery pollute the land. God used adultery as a symbol for those who have once served Him but then turn away to idolatry of some type.

24. The practitioners of what specific sexual practices does the Bible say will not inherit the kingdom of God? 1 Corinthians 6:9

fornicators: prostitution, incest, sex by two unmarried people

adulterers: sex with someone other than a spouse

effeminate: pedophiles

abusers of themselves with mankind: homosexuals

Please notice that Paul went on to say in verse 11 that some of the Corinthians had practiced these sinful practices, but, by accepting Jesus Christ as their Saviour, they had been cleansed from those defilements. God is as able today to cleanse a sinner as He was then.

25. Genesis 39:7-18 tells the story of Joseph’s temptation to commit fornication. Who was responsible for making an improper sexual advance to him? Genesis 39:7

26. How did Joseph reply to her request? Genesis 39:8, 9

27. The wife didn’t cease in her ploy to lure Joseph to “lie with” her, but accosted him one last time. What did Joseph do in reply to her demand? Genesis 39:12

Joseph was accused of rape by the wife and was placed in prison, yet he was not forsaken by God. He used the circumstances to bring Joseph into a position of power where he could provide for his father’s large family in a time of famine.

28. In order to see God, what must be the condition of the heart? Matthew 5:8

29. Why did Jesus die for us? Titus 2:14
